GLBC Story

The Great Lakes Story

Great Lakes Bible College has its roots in the attempt by concerned members of Churches of Christ in the late 1940s to establish a Christian junior college in southern Ontario. Great Lakes Christian High School (formerly Great Lakes Christian College) developed over the years as a fine residential high school in 1952. The post-secondary program, initially called the Faculty of Bible and Missions was formed in 1969 and was renamed in 1975 as the School of Bible and Missions.

In 1987, the post-secondary program secured its Ontario Charter to become an independent institution, taking the current name of Great Lakes Bible College. In 1996, classes were moved to Waterloo, one of Ontario’s prime educational centers. Today, Great Lakes Bible College continues to innovate the programs and format offerings to suit the changing needs of the congregations that she serves. Online Study, especially in 2020, and the following years has allowed us to reach students who take classes (both synchronous and asynchronous) from across Canada and beyond.

GLCHS and GLBC continue as sister institutions in the unified Great Lakes endeavor.

Our Vision

The vision of Great Lakes Bible College is to be a viable institute for Biblical learning and training, equipping the church for spiritual ministry, leadership and service; primarily serving churches of Christ throughout Canada and the northern United States, in addition to providing workers for the Kingdom worldwide.

Our Mission

The mission of Great Lakes Bible College is to provide a university level program of Bible education to prepare its students for effective spiritual living, Christian service, leadership, and world evangelism.

Our Values

  • The life-long pursuit of serious Bible study that leads to godly living.
  • A broad-based curriculum that promotes faith development, personal maturity, and Christian commitment.
  • Enabling students to find their place of Christian service, informed by the past, and challenged by the future. We seek to do that in an environment that honors God.
  • Motivated by the great commission, "to disciple the nations" we prepare students to share the Good News of the Gospel in a way that our culture will understand and embrace.
