Intertestamental Literature and History Syllabus

The four hundred years between the close of the Old Testament and the beginning of the New Testament are fundamental to understanding the background of the New Covenant. Key features of the first-century context familiar to us in the New Testament—such as synagogues, the Pharisees, and the Sadducees—originated during this intertestamental period. Furthermore, the literature from this era illustrates the cultural worldview and scriptural interpretation with which Jesus and the apostles interacted.
